10 Most Stolen Cars of 2013

compare car insurance quotes

While high profile sports car might seem like the most logical choice for types of cars stolen in the United States in 2012. The list as a whole isn’t comprised of them. While its true 1/10 Corvettes are stolen at least once in their lifetime, they don’t make the list this year. Keep in mind that regardless of the car you have comparing car insurance online by shopping insurance companies is always a good idea.

Cars with the highest theft rates
  1. 1994 Honda Accord midsize
  2. 1998 Honda Civic compact
  3. 2006 Ford F-150 pickup
  4. 1991 Toyota Camry midsize
  5. 2000 Dodge Caravan minvian
  6. 1994 Acura Integra compact
  7. 1999 Chevrolet Silverado pickup
  8. 2004 Dodge Ram pickup
  9. 2002 Ford Explorer SUV
  10. 1994 Nissan Sentra compact

Vehicles are stolen mainly for their car parts, which is why Camry and Accord are usually at the top of the “most stolen cars” list.  Now if you get a Prius, its construction and unique parts make it a less targeted car. The theft numbers are dramatically low for how popular the Prius is. Over 96 percent of all Prius’s are recovered from being stolen according to the National Insurance Crime Bureau.

Other cars with low theft rates
  1. Audi A6 all-wheel-drive, large luxury car
  2. Mercury Mariner (2009-10) small SUV
  3. Chevrolet Equinox (2010) midsize SUV
  4. Volkswagen CC (2009-10), midsize car
  5. Chevrolet Equinox four-wheel-drive (2010) midsize SUV
  6. Lexus RX 350 (2010) midsize luxury SUV
  7. Saturn Vue midsize SUV
  8. Chevrolet Aveo (2009-10) mini station wagon
  9. BMW 5 Series all-wheel-drive large luxury car
  10. Mini Cooper Clubman two-door car

Number 8 on the list of least stolen cars is the Chevy Aveo, I think the reason for this is simply no one wants to own that car, even the owners. That might be why Chevy rebooted the model as the “Chevy Sonic” and have stuck it to Ford lately in total sales versus the Focus.
